| First 'Malaria jab' gets approved |
The European drugs regulators have given a green light to the world's first malaria vaccine.
The vaccine, 'Mosquirix', developed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and is the first of its kind against a parasitic infection in humans, the BBC reported.
However, the World Health Organisation (WHO) is yet to decide whether it the treatment is suitable for children.
Dr Ripley Ballou, head of research at GSK vaccines said that he had been working on the vaccine since the past 30 years and this was a hugely significant moment.
GSK has not disclosed the price of the vaccine, but has assured not to make any profits from it.
The vaccine has been specifically designed to fight malaria infection in children in Africa and will not be licensed for travellers. (ANI)
